Looking for something to do in Metro Vancouver? Here are three suggestions for the weekend of April 21-22.
Hastings Racecourse: Opening Weekend
Saddle up your horses! Or, if you don’t have any horses, get down to Hastings Racecourse as they kick off another year of making horses run fast and betting on which horse can be made to run the fastest. Admission is free, food is cheap, beer is cheap, you might win money. Is there anything else you need to know?
Where: Hastings Racecourse, 188 North Renfrew St., Vancouver
When: All weekend, 1:50 p.m. start times
The Gateway Show
Here’s the pitch: four excellent local comics do a set at The Rickshaw — Ivan Decker, who is having a real moment right now, Maggie Maye, Myles Weber and Sophie Buddle. Then, they get completely baked and, later, they do a second set. Will it be funnier? The comics will definitely think so, even if the audience doesn’t. It sounds like a great time.
Where: Rickshaw Theatre, 254 East Hastings St., Vancouver
When: Saturday, 7 p.m.
Do you love Lego? Who doesn’t? As interlocking bricks so, Lego is tops, and if you agree, you’ll probably have a great time at BrickCan, Canada’s largest public Lego exhibition. Featuring hundreds of incredible new creations built by talented builders from around the world, not to mention vendors selling Lego-themed books, clothing, jewellery, and artwork, as well as rare Lego sets and pieces, this sounds like an incredible event.
Where: River Rock Casino Resort, 8811 River Rd., Richmond
When: Saturday-Sunday, all day
